Best E-Bike Trails in Orlando

Orlando’s e-bike ride is not International Drive. It is the West Orange Trail: 22.32 miles of 12–15 ft asphalt from Killarney Station through historic Winter Garden to Apopka, plus the South Lake / Lake Minneola connector into Clermont. Orange County Parks: Class 1 and 2 only. Class 3 prohibited. Winter Garden added a January 2026 overlay: 10 mph on bicycle paths not adjacent to a roadway, and no operator under 15 on city paths. Statewide context: e-biking in Florida.

Why Ride Here?

It is the best trail town in the state. Plant Street is the trail. Tacos in ninety seconds, shade, bathrooms at stations, and a straight shot onto the Coast-to-Coast. Theme-park visitors who rent a Class 2 for a morning actually finish the ride.

Mile 0: Killarney Station, 17299 / 17914 SR 438, Oakland — connects west to South Lake Trail. Mile 5: Winter Garden Station, 455 E. Plant St. Chapin Station, 501 Crown Point Cross Rd. C2C Orange County gap (Hiawassee Rd to Seminole-Wekiva, 4.5 miles) was under construction as of January 2026.

Distance

West Orange 22.32 miles (Orange County). Killarney–Winter Garden is the scenic 5-mile original rail-trail. Round trip Killarney–Apopka is 44 miles or a car shuttle. South Lake / Minneola add ~10–13 miles west. Cady Way Trail is the in-town extra.

Surface

Asphalt, mostly 14 ft, some boardwalk. Smooth, marked, station-to-station. Not singletrack. Road crossings in Winter Garden and Apopka are the hazard.

E-Bike Classes Allowed

Orange County: Class 1 and Class 2 on paved trails. Class 3 prohibited on all Orange County trails (county parks page). Winter Garden 2026: 10 mph on paths not next to a road; Class 3 banned on the West Orange paved path; operators under 15 off city bicycle paths (passenger OK on a designed seat). A Class 3 hangtag stays in the car.

Difficulty

Beginner. Crowded at Winter Garden on weekends. Clermont’s South Lake hills are the only “Florida climbing.”

Elevation

Rail-grade through Winter Garden. Clermont / Lake Minneola is the Central Florida ridge — short rollers, not mountains. A hub commuter is enough.

Parking

Killarney Station, Winter Garden Station, Chapin Station, Apopka Station, several outposts. Sunrise to sunset. Do not block the trail-town fire lane on Plant Street.

Charging

Stations and downtown Winter Garden cafes. Wheel Works and Bikes & Blades if you rented. Matched brick; no random outdoor GFCI as a plan.

Food & Water

Plant Street is the food. Oakland Nature Preserve is a lock-and-walk to Lake Apopka, not a restaurant. Carry water north of Winter Garden — shade is not a store.

Rentals

Wheel Works and Bikes & Blades are the two trailhead desks (comfort, kids, trailers; e-bikes when the fleet has them). Confirm Class 1/2. Phone Wheel Works (407) 877-7433 before a Saturday.

Best Time to Ride

October–April, weekday mornings. Summer: rolling by 8 a.m., off by the 2 p.m. storm. Weekends on Plant Street are a parade — 10 mph is not optional.

What We Learned Riding It

Class 3 is the ticket here, not the flex. The 5 miles Killarney–Winter Garden is the postcard; Apopka is the miles. The C2C gap east of Hiawassee is still a construction/side-road problem until Orange County says it is not. Ride 10–15 mph through town even if the motor will do 20. Locals asked for that ordinance after the first year of throttle bikes on Plant Street.
