Honda e-MTB Prototype: On Sale in 2027, No Price
Honda’s own Sea Otter note says a production e-MTB in 2027. Name, price, and markets come later. A writeup that prints 85 Nm is not that note.

The short answer
Honda’s European press note says an electric mountain bike goes on sale in 2027. A prototype stood at Sea Otter Europe in Girona beside the old RN01. Name, price, and markets come later. That note prints no torque and no watt-hours. Electrek described a Fox 36 and a Gullarm. Gagadget printed 85 Nm and the code RN0. Those lines are not Honda’s spec card.
Honda says it will sell an electric mountain bike in 2027. The company’s European press note on its first Sea Otter Europe appearance, in Girona, is the sheet. A prototype was on the stand next to the RN01 downhill bike from the early 2000s. The concept line is “New Terrain, Same Dream.” Naming, availability, pricing, and which markets get the bike will be communicated later. That note does not print a model code, a torque number, a watt-hour, or a dollar price. Anything that does is someone else’s paragraph.
What Honda actually printed
The press note says the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer will enter the e-MTB market, that the prototype on display is the inspiration for the bike set to go on sale in 2027, and that the prototype was developed under “New Terrain, Same Dream,” to combine the fun of motorcycling with the fun of mountain biking. Also on the stand: the CR Proto electric motocrosser and the RTL Electric trials bike. Those are not the e-MTB. The RN01 is the old downhill race bike, not a 2027 product. Cleanrider’s 21 September story matches the official skeleton: production in 2027, and the final name, price, and markets later.
Do not merge these into one spec card. Only the first row is Honda’s press note.
| Who | What they added | What they did not |
|---|---|---|
| Honda EU press note | 2027 on sale. Prototype at Sea Otter Europe. “New Terrain, Same Dream.” | No name, no price, no Nm, no watt-hours. |
| Electrek, 22 Sept 2026 | Rotwild’s ADP Engineering, a “Gullarm” swingarm, Fox 36, mullet 29 / 27.5, a Shimano EP8-series motor on the display bike. | Electrek says a different casing is not proof of a new Shimano motor. No price. |
| Notebookcheck, 21 Sept | Premium intent. Toni Bou involved. 2027. | “No name yet.” Honda “did not share any specs or pricing.” |
| Gagadget, 21 Sept | Calls it the RN0. Prints an EP8 at 85 Nm, Di2, UDH. | Also says no U.S. or UK price and no dealer network. The 85 Nm is not on Honda’s note. |
The hardware fight
Electrek looked at the display bike and described a carbon monocoque with Rotwild’s ADP Engineering, a single-pivot Honda calls the Gullarm, a Fox 36, and a mullet (29-inch front, 27.5 rear). The motor on that bike, in Electrek’s reading, is a Shimano EP8-series unit, and the casing did not look exactly like the current EP801. Electrek’s own caution is the correct one: that is not a declaration of a new Shimano motor. Gagadget prints 85 Nm and the code RN0. Notebookcheck says the bike has no name and that Honda did not share specs. Honda’s note does not break the tie. Until Honda prints the motor, 85 Nm is a reporter’s sentence. The Levo 4 is a bike you can buy. This prototype is not.

2027 is a year. It is not a spec sheet.
What to do with a register-interest page
Electrek says Honda’s German site was already asking riders to register interest and calling the bike “almost here.” “Almost here” and “on sale in 2027” are both Honda-adjacent sentences. They are not a ship date for a U.S. shop. There is no UL line, no class sticker, and no watt-hour to argue with, because the company has not published the system. A class chart applies when there is a motor rating and a speed. This page does not have those. Wheel-E’s 25 September episode spends about a minute on the unveil. That clip is on the ALSO news piece. It does not add a torque figure Honda withheld. Wait for the name and the price. Do not buy a different e-MTB because a prototype shared a tent with an RN01.
Questions people ask
When does the Honda electric mountain bike go on sale?+
Honda’s Sea Otter Europe press note says 2027. It also says the name, the price, the markets, and availability will be announced later. A German register-interest page is not a U.S. ship date.
What motor is on the Honda e-MTB prototype?+
Honda’s press note does not say. Electrek’s 22 September story describes a Shimano EP8-series motor on the display bike and warns that a different casing is not proof of a new motor. Gagadget’s 85 Nm is Gagadget’s sentence. Notebookcheck said Honda shared no specs.
Is the Honda e-MTB called the RN0?+
Gagadget uses RN0. Notebookcheck says there is no name yet. Honda’s press note does not print RN0. The RN01 on the stand is the early-2000s downhill bike, not the 2027 product.
How much will the Honda e-MTB cost?+
No price was on Honda’s note, on Electrek’s story, or on Notebookcheck’s story. Gagadget also said there is no U.S. or UK price. Do not invent one from a Levo.

What Is a Class 1, 2, and 3 E-Bike?
Class 1 is pedal-assist to 20. Class 2 adds a throttle to 20. Class 3 is pedal-assist to 28. A Tuttio is none of these. The sticker is not the trail.
