The short answer
This is a sport motorcycle, not a Class 1–3 bicycle. The live technical block still shows 147 hp sustained, 222 Nm, an 18.9 kWh nominal, and 261 city miles, with the limiter at 150 mph. A prior factory PDF uses 215 Nm, 153 combined miles, and 260 kg. The desk list’s $24,000 line is not printed on either sheet.
The Energica Ego+ is a sport motorcycle, not a Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bike. Energica’s model page still prints 169 hp peak (126 kW), 147 hp sustained (110 kW), 222 Nm, a 21.5 kWh maximum, an 18.9 kWh nominal, and a city range of 261 miles, with the top speed limited at 150 mph. An older factory PDF prints the same 126 kW peak and the same 21.5 / 18.9 pack, then prints 215 Nm, a combined range of 153 miles, and a curb weight of 260 kg (573 lb). British Dealer News (14 November 2024) says the board filed for bankruptcy judicial liquidation. A later note (9 May 2025) says the firm had been declared bankrupt the previous October and the assets were headed to auction. The list’s “about $24,000” is not on the factory page. One hundred ten kilowatts is about 147.5 horsepower, so 145 hp and 147 hp are a rounding fight on the same continuous figure, not two motors. Two hundred twenty-two newton-meters and 215 are not a rounding. One hundred sixty combined miles and 153 are not a rounding. The city line is the one number both sheets share, 261 miles, and it is a claim, not a loop this desk rode. Twenty-one point five kilowatt-hours is 21,500 watt-hours. Divided by 261 miles that is about 82 watt-hours a mile. Divided by 123 miles it is about 175. Those are the printed claims turned into arithmetic. The watt-hour page is the unit.
One hundred sixty-nine horsepower does not get a bicycle class. Liquidation does not rewrite the sheet that is still online. It does mean a new bike and a leftover bike are not the same shopping problem.
Who it is for
Buy a used one only if you can license a motorcycle, you can insure it, and you have read which torque is on the paper in front of you. Do not buy it as a commuter e-bike, and do not treat a $229,000 web table as Energica’s last MSRP. The Zero SR/F is the other naked street bike on this list, and that company is still selling a US table. This one is the Modena sport bike whose maker filed for liquidation. It fails the class chart.
Questions people ask
Is a new one still in production?+
A 14 November 2024 trade note says the board filed for judicial liquidation. A 9 May 2025 note says bankruptcy had already been declared and assets were going to auction. A website that still renders is not a shop with stock.
Which torque do you quote?+
Use 222 Nm when the current model page is open. The older PDF says 215 Nm. Peak kilowatts match. The newton-meters do not.
What did both range tables share?+
City range, 261 miles, is the shared claim. Combined range is 160 miles on the site and 153 on the PDF. Extra-urban is 130 versus 123. Claims, not a ridden loop.
Does any bicycle class fit 169 hp?+
No. The class chart stops at pedal bikes under 750 watts. A 150 mph sport motorcycle needs a motorcycle license, not a bike-lane sticker.
