Withlacoochee State Trail by E-Bike
Florida State Parks’ hero line says 47 miles. The same page still says 46. Open 8 a.m. to sunset, no fee. E-bikes are allowed on the bicycle trail under 316.20655. Hernando is on the way. Brooksville is not a trailhead this desk printed.

The short answer
The Withlacoochee State Trail is a paved rail-trail through Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco. The state parks hero says 47 miles. The same site still says 46. Hours are 8 a.m. to sunset, with no fee. Electric bicycles are allowed on bicycle trails, consistent with section 316.20655. Out and back doubles the length. Brooksville is in Hernando. This desk did not find it as a trailhead.
The Withlacoochee State Trail is a paved rail-trail, and Florida State Parks does not have one length for it. The welcome line says 47 miles, from the Citrus Springs end through Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco toward Dade City. A later line on that same page calls it the 46-mile converted railroad corridor. The experiences page says 47 miles again, and it says the ride runs south from Citrus Springs to Trilby. This desk’s central Florida roundup still says 46. Do not average 46 and 47 into 46.5. Pick the sentence you are using, and plan water for the longer one.
All of these are Florida State Parks pages, or this desk quoting them. The office line is the Inverness address on the main park page.
| Line | What it prints |
|---|---|
| Length | 47 miles in the hero and on the bicycling page. 46 miles in the wild-places blurb. |
| Ends | Welcome: Citrus Springs and Dade City. Bicycling: Citrus Springs to Trilby. |
| Hours and fee | 8 a.m. to sunset, 365 days. No fee. |
| Office | 3100 S. Old Floral City Road, Inverness. 352-726-0315. |
| E-bikes | Allowed on trails designated for bicycles, “consistent with” statute 316.20655. |
| Helmet | Recommended for everyone. Required under 16, which is the state bicycle rule the park repeats. |
The battery math is the length you believe
Forty-seven miles one way is not a loop. Out and back is 94. A pack that is honest at about 8 watt-hours a mile, the rate hiding inside a lot of easy claims, would want about 376 watt-hours for the one-way 47 and about 750 for the round trip, before wind, a stop-start town, and a headwind you did not put in the ad. That 8 is an illustration, not a test on this trail. Your bike’s own loop is the number. The watt-hour page is how to read the pack. There is no charger promised at Trilby in the sentences this desk read. Turn around while you still have the watts to get back, or stage a car.
Hernando is on the corridor. Brooksville is a town.
The trail crosses Hernando County. Brooksville is in Hernando County. Those are not the same fact. The park page names Ridge Manor among the places a horse trailer can park. It does not, in the lines this desk used, print a Brooksville trailhead address or a mile marker for the courthouse. Do not ride to “Brooksville” and assume the asphalt is the main street. Use the mile markers the experiences page says are on the trail. The equestrian path is unpaved and parallel in places. That is a horse trail. It is not a second bike lane.

What the statute allows, and what it does not freeze
Section 316.20655 says an electric bicycle and its rider get the rights and duties of a bicycle, and that you may ride an electric bicycle where bicycles are allowed, including bicycle and multiuse paths. The same section says a city, a county, or the agency in charge of a path may still restrict e-bikes on that path. The park’s own experiences page has not used that door. It says bicycles, including electric bicycles, may be used on trails designated for bicycle use, consistent with that statute. A Class 3 is still an electric bicycle under the state definition if it meets the class rules. It is not a motorcycle. It is also not immune to a later path rule. The 10 mph-near-pedestrians bill was vetoed. It is not the rule on this trail. Yield anyway. The sidewalk guide is the city layer. This trail is the state-park layer.
Lights if you will be out near sunset. The clock is sunset, not a guess, and the 500-foot rule is the equipment. Water, because the park says so and because a 47-mile claim in Florida is a heat claim. Helmet under 16. No fee does not mean no rules. If a section is closed, the closure beats this paragraph. Call the Inverness office before you drive an hour for a mile of fresh asphalt that is not open.
Questions people ask
How long is the Withlacoochee State Trail?+
Florida State Parks’ welcome line says 47 miles. A later blurb on that page says 46. The bicycling page says 47 again. This desk’s central Florida roundup still says 46. Do not average them.
Can you ride an e-bike on the Withlacoochee State Trail?+
The park’s experiences page says yes, on trails designated for bicycles, consistent with Florida statute 316.20655. That statute also lets the agency restrict a path later. The page this desk read had not done that. The vetoed 10 mph bill is not the rule.
What time does the Withlacoochee trail close?+
8 a.m. to sunset, 365 days a year, on the state parks page. No fee. The office listed is 3100 S. Old Floral City Road, Inverness, 352-726-0315. Sunset is the clock. Bring the 500-foot lights if you will cut it close.
Does the trail go through Brooksville?+
It crosses Hernando County, and Brooksville is in Hernando County. The park page names Ridge Manor for horse-trailer parking. It did not print a Brooksville trailhead in the lines this desk used.

Can You Ride an E-Bike on the Sidewalk?
In Florida, an e-bike may use a sidewalk unless the city says no. You must yield and signal before you pass. Jacksonville just set 15 mph on sidewalks and shared paths. Other states write the opposite default.
