Segway X260: Everything You Need to Know

The Segway X260 is an electric dirt bike Segway still lists, and the card says discontinued. The price on that card is $6,499.99. The header specs are 121.3 pounds, a 220.5-pound payload, 46.6 mph, 74.6 miles, 0 to 31 mph in 4.02 seconds, and 184.3 foot-pounds. It is not a Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bike. It is not the youth balance bike a short list blurb makes it sound like. In May 2026 Segway started selling the Xaber 300, a different motorcycle, at $5,299.99.

What the card actually prints

Twenty-three point six foot-pounds and 184 foot-pounds can both be true if one is the motor shaft and the other is the wheel after the chain. The page never says that. It also prints 162.2 foot-pounds in the wheelie paragraph, next to a 49.2-inch wheelbase and a 35-degree climb, with 48 teeth on the rear sprocket. Three torque figures and no sentence that assigns them is not a spec. It is a brochure that was edited more than once. Do not buy a used X260 because a listing picked the biggest number.

The header is 184.3 foot-pounds. The same page also says 23.6 and 162.2. Ask which one the wheel makes.

It is not an e-bike, and it is not a pit bike for a child

Forty-six miles an hour, a claimed 121 pounds, and a dirt-bike chassis fail the three-class bicycle test before anyone argues about pedals. Class 2 stops at 20. Class 3, where it exists, is pedal assist to 28. A machine this fast is an off-road motorcycle. A bike lane, a riverwalk, and a 15 mph shared path are the wrong map. Private land and an off-road park that actually allows electric motorcycles are the argument, and the park’s rule is the rule, not Segway’s header.

This desk’s list used to file the X260 under youth and park. The card does not support “kids’ bike.” Payload is 220.5 pounds. Speed is 46.6. Weight is 121.3. That is a teen or an adult who can hold a dirt bike up, not a first bicycle. The smaller Segway in that old family was a different model. Do not put a child on 46 mph because the category tag said youth.

Seventy-four miles, with no tank size

Seventy-four point six miles is on the card. Watt-hours are not. Speed for that loop is not. Rider weight is not. A swappable Panasonic-partnered pack is a feature: you can pull it and drop in another. It is not a range test. Without watt-hours, 74.6 cannot be checked against watt-hours per mile. Treat it as a marketing ceiling. The 0-to-31 time, 4.02 seconds, is at least a number with a speed attached. The top speed, 46.6, is the number that decides where it is legal.

IP65 on the pack and IP67 on the controller are the water lines Segway prints. IP65 is jets of water, not a creek you ride through up to the motor. Aluminum and a heat-shedding case do not make a submerged controller fine. The page also says the motor’s maximum of 5,400 rpm “operates up to 356°F,” which is a temperature claim sitting in the same block as the 23.6 foot-pound figure. It is not a reason to ignore a hot motor.

What replaced it

Motorcycle.com’s 1 May 2026 report on the Segway Xaber 300 is a different bike, and Segway’s X260 card is the one marked discontinued. The Xaber 300 was scheduled for US dealers on 15 May 2026 at $5,299.99. The published sheet is a mid-drive, 21 kilowatts peak, 60 mph, 0 to 50 mph in 5.5 seconds, 187 pounds, a 72-volt 44-amp-hour pack described as more than 3 kilowatt-hours, and up to 62 miles in the lowest mode. The same sheet breaks range by mode: about 44 miles at 43 mph, 37 at 50, 34 at 56, and 31 at 59.6. That is how a range claim should look. The X260’s 74.6 does not look like that.

A Light Bee is the other off-road motorcycle people cross-shop with this shape: pedals that do not make it a bicycle, a speed that does not belong on a path, a weight you do not carry up stairs. The X260 is the discontinued Segway version of that idea. The Xaber 300 is the one Segway is selling instead, at a lower sticker than the X260’s old $6,499.99, with more power and a shorter claimed range once you read the fast modes.

Who it is for

Buy a used X260 only if the seller can show which torque number the wheel makes, the pack still swaps, and you have land or a park that allows a 46 mph electric motorcycle. Do not buy it as an e-bike. Do not buy it for a 74-mile trail ride you have not metered. Do not buy it for a child because a list once said youth. If you want a new Segway dirt bike, the card in the store is the Xaber 300, and its range is the mode you will actually ride, not the 62-mile headline.
