Sur-Ron Light Bee X: Everything You Need to Know

2026 MY26 is 10 kW, 72V 35Ah, 130 lb, claimed 50 mph. It is an e-moto, not a Class 3. The aftermarket is still the second bike.

By SickEBike desk

The short answer

The 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X is a 10 kW peak, 72V 35Ah (2.5 kWh), 130 lb electric dirt bike with 19/18 wheels, a belt+chain drive, four-piston 203 mm brakes, and a claimed 50 mph. It is an e-moto, not a Class 3 bicycle. US dealers quote roughly $3,900–$6,500; Canada lists $6,499. Ride it off-road. Mods and maps at your own risk, with a tech.

The 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X is the bike people still mean when they say they want a Sur-Ron. Factory sheets (Sur-Ron UK, Sur-Ron Canada, Traction Bikes) agree on the MY26 jump: 10 kW peak PMSM mid-drive, 72V 35Ah (2.5 kWh) pack, 295 N·m / 217 ft-lb at the wheel, 59 kg / 130 lb, 19/18 wheels, primary belt plus secondary chain, four-piston hydraulics, claimed 50 mph. Pit Bike USA’s June 2026 spec desk and RiderGuide’s 12 September lineup both treat that as a real update, not a sticker. It is not a Class 3 bicycle. 15 U.S.C. § 2085 wants pedals, under 750 W, motor-only under 20 mph. The Light Bee misses all three. Ride it off-road or on a titled homologated version. Do controller maps and motor work at your own risk, with a tech.

2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X electric dirt bike
2026 Light Bee X — dealer photo. 19-inch front, 18-inch rear, forged double-cradle, four-piston calipers. This is the trail bike. The Hyper Bee is the 14/12 mini.

What it is — and the rest of the Sur-Ron row

Sur-Ron’s 2026 dirt row, per RiderGuide: Hyper Bee (8 kW, 58V 22Ah, ~86 lb, 14/12 — the size that actually fights a Tuttio), Light Bee X (this bike), Ultra Bee HP SW (24.5 kW, 74V 60Ah, ~195 lb, Voro at $6,399), Storm Bee (22.5 kW, 104V). The Light Bee is the 19/18 trail chassis that built the aftermarket. Seat 830 mm / 32.7 in, wheelbase 1,255 mm, ground clearance 270 mm / 10.6 in, fork 200 mm, rear shock 85 mm, payload 100 kg / 220 lb. Tires: 70/100-19 front, 3.00-18 rear. Forged aluminium double-cradle, forged swingarm. Primary carbon belt, secondary chain — MY26 uses a new belt/pulley set and a 420 O-ring chain with a 55T rear sprocket (Lithium Powersports parts desk). Older Gates 2193 belts do not automatically drop onto MY26.

Colors on NZ/UK lists: white, black, green, purple. Two ride modes (Sport / Eco), three throttle-response levels, five-level regen, two-level Sur-Ron Wheelie Control (SWC), Auto Hold, brake-priority cutoff, side-stand cutoff, gyro tilt protection. T-Box + Sur-Ron app and OTA are standard on MY26. UK sheet, blunt: “Road Legal: No — off-road use only.” That is the honest hangtag.

MrCentralDriver, Aug 2026, 25k views. 72V, 10 kW, SWC, 50 mph claimed. On-board 53 / phone GPS 51 on a charged street pull. That is a motorcycle number, not a Class 3.

Power, pack, and what the 10 kW actually changed

8 kW to 10 kW is 25%. The more important change is voltage. 72V at 35Ah is 2.5 kWh versus a 60V 40Ah pack at 2.4 kWh — almost the same tank, more pressure, less current for the same watts (volts × amps). Dealers (Traction, Pit Bike USA, Garland) talk about less heat under load and a Smart FOC box that stops the old Light Bee’s on/off hit. Canada lists 0–19 mph in 1.29 s and 0–31 mph in 2.5 s. Charge 20–80% in 2.15 hours on the new 84V 10A brick. Do not put a 60V charger on a 72V pack. UL 2849 is an ebike-system mark; this is an e-moto pack. Matched charger anyway.

WMTC-style range on the sheet is 46.6 miles at 24.85 mph. Pit Bike USA’s 2026 owner pile is the number to believe: mixed trail Sport 25–32 miles, Eco trail 35–42, easy pavement 40–50, aggressive enduro 18–25. A 60-mile Amazon leftover is a 2023 brochure. Creature Racing still prints “50 mi” next to 50 mph — that is marketing sitting on the WMTC line, not a loop you will ride at 50.

May 2026. The 10 kW pulls longer into the rpm. Four-piston brakes came with it. If you already planned an X-9000 and a 72V aftermarket pack on an old chassis, maybe buy used. If you want stock-fast, MY26 is the factory catching up.

Brakes, belt, and the first honest mods

MY26 ships opposed four-piston hydraulics, 203 mm rotors, five-level regen. That package beats a Tuttio or Villain mini. It is still an MTB-class brake on a 10 kW, 50 mph, 130 lb dirt bike. The dedicated piece is what’s so great about Sur-Ron brakes: sintered pads first, then 220–240 mm or Ultra Bee calipers if you actually fade them. Magura MT5 is lever feel more than peak force.

The belt is quiet until mud eats it. Stock is fine on a stock map. JW Shop and a decade of Light Bee groups still move modified bikes to a 219 or 420 primary chain. MY26’s belt and midshaft are a matched Y029E set — do not mix 2019 Gates parts. Mods we like: pegs, knobbies, pads, a rotor if you cook the 203s. Controller last. Field weakening on the stock surface-magnet motor is how magnets leave the rotor. Test a used motor for halls and phase-to-case before you buy a ‘tuned’ can on Marketplace. Doctorbass still owns the rust-in-the-bottom-of-the-can clip.

Brake upgrade test, not a dyno. Stock four-piston MY26 is the right first brake. Magura is the lever. Walk before you buy a 240 mm kit for a bike you ride in Eco.

Talaria, Tuttio, Ultra Bee — pick the fight

Versus the Talaria Sting R MX4: MX4 is ~8 kW, 60V 45Ah (~2.7 kWh), gearbox + chain, ~145 lb, often $3,500–$4,500. Punchier stock MX, bigger tank, no belt. Light Bee is lighter, 10 kW MY26, and has the parts catalog. Build a Light Bee. Race a stock MX4.

Versus a Tuttio Soleil01: not a side-grade. 14/12 mini, ~3 kW peak, ~105 lb, ~$1,000. The Hyper Bee is the Sur-Ron in that size. A Light Bee is 19-inch trail geometry and four times the peak watts. If you are on a Tuttio and ‘planning to upgrade soon,’ this is the upgrade — budget dealer money, a helmet that is actually a dirt helmet, and the fact that Pinellas will not treat it as a bicycle.

Versus Ultra Bee: more than twice the peak kW and 65 lb. Wrong bike if you still want to lift it into a van. Right bike if the Light Bee’s 10 kW already feels like the limiter. Voro’s Ultra Bee HP SW at $6,399 is the one RiderGuide could pin to a receipt.

Talaria MX4 — the stock-punch rival. Gearbox, more watt-hours, more weight. Read the head-to-head before you assume the Light Bee wins every trail.

Street, trails, Florida, money

Not street-legal as a bicycle. RiderGuide: California treats Sur-Ron / Talaria / Segway / E Ride Pro as off-highway vehicles — green sticker, not a Class 2. Some states title a homologated 50cc-equivalent version; that is a dealer conversation, not a Amazon toggle. NYC 15 mph and Pinellas Trail 20 are bicycle numbers. A 10 kW Light Bee on the Riverwalk is a motor vehicle on a pedestrian path. Class 1/2/3 does not apply.

US money is a spread. RiderGuide could not find a factory US MSRP and logged dealer quotes about $3,899–$5,500. Creature Racing has listed $4,499–$4,999. Sur-Ron Canada prints $6,499 plus $200 freight and $200 PDI. UK RRP around £3,295–£3,495. Gray-market Alibaba bikes skip the dealer harness and the warranty. MY26 electrical (controller Y029E, 72V pack, 84V charger, T-Box, dual-hall throttle) does not bolt onto a 2019–2025 60V bike (Lithium Powersports). Buying ‘a Light Bee’ without the model year is how you own two chargers and zero compatibility.

Electric dirt bike motor and cable exit, the failure point on used Light Bees
Used Light Bee motors fail at the axle-exit halls and at water in the can. If the listing is a washed bike on a towel, ask for this photo and a spin video.

Who should buy MY26 stock: a rider who wants 19-inch trail geometry, a 10 kW hit without building a 72V Frankenstein, and a dealer who will still answer the phone. Who should buy a used 60V chassis: someone who already has an EBMX X-9000 or Torp TC1000 on the workbench and will test the stator before they PayPal a stranger. Who should not buy either: a commuter who wanted a Class 2 for the Riverwalk, a 13-year-old whose only bike is a Tuttio and whose only upgrade plan is ‘Sur-Ron next month’ without $5k and a truck, or anyone who thinks sintered pads make it street-legal.

Ownership that is not a map: keep the 420 O-ring chain at 0.5% wear like any 11-speed, because MY26 standardized a 55T rear. Inspect the primary belt for missing teeth after mud. Do not pressure-wash the can — Himiway and Doctorbass still lose halls that way. Store the 72V pack at 40–80% if it sits. The 84V brick is the only brick. Gyro tilt cut and side-stand cut are there because people still dump these in parking lots and the motor keeps making 10 kW. SWC (two-level wheelie control) is a beginner aid, not a flex. Turn it off when you already know how to loft the front; leave it on when you do not. Regen on 5 is engine braking on a long fire-road — it does not replace the four-piston fronts.

The aftermarket is why the Light Bee still wins the catalog fight. Every wear item has three vendors. Controllers (EBMX, Torp, FarDriver) assume this chassis. Pegs, bars, wheels, and 240 mm brake kits assume this chassis. That is also why a ‘cheap Sur-Ron’ on Marketplace is often a 2019 can with a melted hall plug and a story. Phase ohms, halls, no short to case — then money. Controller tuning still starts around 300 phase / 70 battery / 50% field weakening on an X-9000, and 100% FW can add hundreds of battery amps the stock plug was never rated for. Stock Sur-Ron DC plug is about 240 A for a few seconds. Treat that as a fuse, not a challenge.

Buy MY26 if you want the 10 kW and the 72V pack without building it. Buy a clean used 60V chassis if you already have an EBMX/Torp and a 72V plan — and test the motor first. Do not buy it as a commuter. Do not unlock it onto a bike path. Pegs, pads, knobbies, a helmet, then the map. That order is in the mods list because the other order is how Light Bees catch fire and how riders meet a deputy who can read 10 kW. Everything you need to know, one more time: 10 kW, 72V 35Ah, 130 lb, claimed 50, not a bicycle, off-road unless a dealer will title it, MY26 electrics stay on MY26, and the second bike is still the parts catalog.

Questions people ask

What are the 2026 Sur-Ron Light Bee X specs?+

10 kW peak PMSM mid-drive, 72V 35Ah (2.5 kWh), 295 N·m at the wheel, 130 lb / 59 kg, 50 mph claimed, 46.6 miles at 24.85 mph on the factory range sheet, 19/18 wheels, primary belt and secondary chain (Sur-Ron UK / Canada).

Is the Light Bee X street legal?+

Not as a bicycle. It fails 15 U.S.C. § 2085 (no bicycle pedals, far over 750W, motor-only well over 20 mph). Sur-Ron UK: off-road use only. Some states title a homologated version — that is a dealer, not a firmware toggle.

How much is a 2026 Light Bee X in the US?+

Sur-Ron does not print a US MSRP. RiderGuide logged about $3,899–$5,500. Creature Racing has listed $4,499–$4,999. Sur-Ron Canada lists $6,499 plus freight and PDI.

Light Bee X vs Talaria MX4?+

MX4: ~8 kW, 60V 45Ah, gearbox, ~145 lb. Light Bee MY26: 10 kW, 72V 35Ah, belt+chain, 130 lb, bigger aftermarket. Race stock MX4; build the Light Bee.

Can I put 2026 parts on an older Light Bee?+

Not the electrical. Lithium Powersports: MY26 72V controller, pack, charger, and harness (Y029E) are not compatible with MY17–25 60V bikes.

What range will I actually get?+

Factory WMTC-style: 46.6 miles at ~25 mph. Pit Bike USA owner reports: 25–32 mixed Sport, 35–42 Eco trail, 18–25 aggressive enduro. Ignore leftover 60-mile ads.

Should I do these mods or repairs myself?+

Do this at your own risk. Work with a qualified ebike or e-moto technician for wiring, batteries, brakes, and controller maps. SickEBike is an informational desk, not a shop. A wrong amp limit, a mismatched charger, or a bad bleed can start a fire or a crash.
